Whitesnake é uma banda de hard rock formada na Inglaterra em 1978 por David Coverdale, após sua saída da banda anterior Deep Purple. Seu material inicial foi comparado pelos críticos ao blues rock do Deep Purple, mas eles lentamente começaram a se mover em direção a um estilo de rock mais comercialmente acessível. [2] Na virada da década, a sorte comercial da banda mudou e eles lançaram uma série de 10 álbuns do Reino Unido, Ready an 'Willing (1980), Come an' Get It (1981), Saints & Sinners (1982) e Slide It In (1984), o último dos quais foi o primeiro a figurar nos EUA e é certificado 2x em platina.
O álbum auto-intitulado da banda em 1987 foi o mais bem-sucedido comercialmente em todo o mundo e continha dois grandes sucessos nos EUA, "Here I Go Again" e "Is This Love", alcançando o número um e dois na Billboard Hot 100. O álbum foi 8 vezes platina nos EUA, [3] e o sucesso da banda os levou a nomear para o Brit Brit Award de 1988 como Melhor Grupo Britânico. [4] Slip of the Tongue (1989) também foi um sucesso, alcançando o top 10 no Reino Unido e nos EUA, e recebeu uma certificação americana de platina. [5] A banda se separou logo após este lançamento, mas teve uma reunião em 1994 e lançou um álbum de estúdio único, Restless Heart (1997).
O Whitesnake foi oficialmente reformado em 2002 e está em turnê juntos desde então, lançando quatro álbuns, Good to Be Bad (2008), Forevermore (2011), The Purple Album (2015) e Flesh & Blood (2019). Em 2005, Whitesnake foi nomeada a 85ª maior banda de hard rock de todos os tempos pelo VH1.
